Meh, but it's close to MVNP
The road in is deeply rutted. The campsites are unlevel but has a stone campfire ring. No toilet, garbage bins, picnic tables or views. It's just a place to park your vehicle or small RV. No frills.
Wrong address
I tried going here, but it sent you to a residence and a dead end… This was using Apple Maps.
Great Free Dispersed Camping
Clearly designated sites. Road is bumpy but not bad. Beautiful sunset views.
Beautiful place right outside MVNP
Easy to find and many nicely secluded sites available. Beautiful view as well!
Closed
This place is closed Dec-April due to it being considered elk habitat. Also fairly muddy.
Nice spot to spend a few days in Mesa Verde
Easy to find. Sites are a little small and road looks like it would be a challenge if it rains much
Awesome sites with great views
This campsite is right outside of Mesa Verde and is easy to locate. Campsites are located along a dirt road and they are clearly marked. The road is well maintained, no ruts or washboards when we visited. The road starts to have a steeper grade after site 9, but it’s nothing a 2 wheel drive can’t handle when dry but may have an issue if the road is wet/muddy. The campsites are fairly big and several could easily accommodate a small camper! We stayed at site 10 and had great views of the Mesa.
Good Spot - Alternative Site Down the Road if Closed
This is a good free spot near Mesa Verde, but if it is closed check out the many BLM spots on road 316 off the highway, barely West of Target Tree Campground slightly East of Mancos.
This area open as of 4/30/2022, good spot close to Mesa Verde
From other reviews it looks like this spot might close seasonally but it was open when I visited at the end of April. Camping only allowed in designated sites, seem to be plenty along the road, I stayed in Site 5, I know there’s at least 15 sites, not sure how many total. The road is pretty good and I made it in fine with my Nissan Versa. There’s plenty of parking space on the pull off for this site and seems to be the same for most other sites I saw. It is close to the highway and you can hear the traffic but it’s nothing too bad, in my opinion. The sites seem pretty well spaced out for a little bit of privacy. Seems to be a relatively quiet area, not too much traffic along the road the sites are on. Very close to Mesa Verde, only a mile down the highway, definitely recommend this spot of visiting the park.
Confortable
Situé proche du parc national, ce site pour camper est très pratique. Il y a des emplacements numéroté. C’est gratuit. La végétation est très belle et vue sur les montagnes. Un peu proche de la route.
Close to National Park and Cortez
Dispersed camping in one of the 15 established camp spots. Not a whole lot of shade but really close to everything.
It’s OPEN!
It’s nothing too fancy but hey! It’s so close to the national park and it’s open again.
Closed
Road was gated off
Temporarily Closed
Closed for Elk Management
Great quiet spot to explore Mesa Verde NP
We've stayed here twice now. Once in a huge 36 ft toy hauler and now in our 26 ft Class C RV. It's a long dirt road that has a few big bumps, but if you're going slow it's passable in almost any vehicle. There are 13 official camping spots with plenty of room to accommodate a big rig. However, it's important to send a tow car down there to scout there is very little room to turn around at the end if all spots are full! Super quiet with beautiful views overlooking the Mesa. About a 5 to 7 minute drive to the visitor center.

Classic BLM free-ness
Nice dirt road, about 15 or so "sites" which are just pull-outs and the occasional fire-ring. A few signs here and there forbidding parking probably to keep erosion down and let the scrubby desert do its thing. The only downside was that you can hear the highway fairly clearly while you sleep. All in all - a chill spot to pull off for the night.
Views of Mesa Verde
Across the main road entrance to Mesa Verda offers camping for all. Nice sites for RVs and tents. No hook ups. Dispersed camping at its best.
