Emerald Forest Cabins & RV

First thing to know is that this is a privately owned campground. It’s run similar to a hotel. You make your reservation for what type of site you want and what kind of trailer you have (or tent site). They assign you a campsite when you check in. From other reviews that I read they try to get you into a site that works for you. We have a pop up trailer so we were in a small section that had about 5 sites for vans and pop ups. Ours was a pretty good size site, but it was backed up to the backside of the cabins. So it wasn’t exactly private.

Overall it is a beautiful area and the tent camping spots looked more secluded. They have a wide variety of sites. Most of the trailer sites are right next to each other similar to an RV resort.

Bathrooms were clean and showers were adequate. They run in quarters and we were able to get some at the front desk.

Emerald Forest is just that, nestled in a forest. It was a little muddy when we visited but California was smack dab in the middle of a very wet season. Our campsite was level and secluded. The bathrooms were clean and showers had nice warm water, did have to pay for the showers but a couple quarters isn’t much. We stayed two nights and walked to town every morning for coffee and scones from Beachcomber…delicious! Our dogs absolutely loved running on the beach which was also a couple mile walk away. Our second visit to this campground was as good as our first. Love this place and would return again.

Absolutely beautiful but right now it is a total MUD FEST. They have had a ton of rain with more on the way. It is a lovely campground nestled into the trees and would be great in the summer and provide protection from the summer heat. I would like to come back when it dries out. It’s close to a beautiful beach and some cool hiking but too muddy for now. Wait until late May, Early June. Sites are tight and some of the back ins a re super hard. I watched someone in an RV try to squeeze in and he had to move. I had difficulty getting in with my van as there was a large RV across from me with other vehicles parked around it.

Definitely snuggled in the beautiful trees. Clean park, my parking spot was very level, roads are not paved so they got muddy in the recent rain. You do have to pay for the showers, but the bathrooms are clean and private.

Clean facilities throughout. Every one of the bathhouses restrooms were spotless every time I visited. Many spots are covered by the canopy of mature redwoods. If visiting the State and National parts it's a great spot near Eureka without having to go to town. There's a lot of roadwork right now so the trip to Crescent City was 1.25 hours... So going north to Jeddah Smith is definitely a day trip. Can be tight for trailers in some spots but they laid things out well. A few spots by the road but wasn't our problem. I didn't see another private campground I'd perfer after heading north. Great spot and would come back.

This camp ground is amazing! Definitely recommend!

Good points, excellent Verizon service and good WIFi. Full hookups. Bad points, RV’s crammed together with zero room/privacy. Hwy 101 road noise is horrible. Dusty/dirty sites.

Busy yet still peaceful

Awesome sites under the trees! Lotsa shade. Ground a little muddy, but what can you expect setting up camp in a rain forest... CLEAN bathrooms with free showers. Laundry on site. Wifi a little spotty, good thing I have unlimited data.

This is a really cool campground for tent campers. The sights are engulfed by giant redwoods and surrounded by ferns, moss and rainforest. Bathrooms are clean and service is great! Showers, laundry, little store, and arcade for kids.

Nestled in between redwoods, quiet park. Near the small town of Trinidad, a must see. Good cell service and Wi-Fi provided by the park. No cable tv, but I would pass anyway. Propane should at the office along with basic food items. I would come back and stay.

Perfect spot for us. Easy to back-in our Solis. There was full access, hot showers. Friendly hosts.

My boyfriend & I stayed at this campground on November 24, 2021 (the day before Thanksgiving). We just so happened to get the last available cabin that night (Cabin H). We are very grateful to the front desk staff who helped us that night. Unfortunately all the nearby restaurants were closed when we arrived but luckily the campground has a communal bonfire pit that visitors staying in any of the cabins can use, (the tent sites have their own pits), so we were able to make do with what we had to eat. I uploaded a couple videos and pictures for reference. There is a beautiful gazebo outside the front of cabin H (see uploaded video). And the view from the large balcony in the back of the cabin was nothing short of amazing (see uploaded video). I simmered out there for a little while with a cup of tea, hypnotized with an immediate understanding of why they call this place Emerald Forest. The cabin we stayed in, Cabin H, is a studio cabin with a private bathroom and kitchenette. We visited the nearby town, Trinidad, and I fell in love. The reputation of how nice and welcoming the people are precedes itself. The perfect mix of a small town vibe placed in a hidden gem of a beautiful coastal town. I uploaded a couple videos and pictures taken at Trinidad for reference. I not only highly recommend seeing Trinidad for yourself, I also highly recommend enjoying a stay at this nearby campground when you do.

Location is very nice and central to the ocean and redwoods.

Booked a stay for 3 nights! Nice family campground. Close to the beach and Redwoods throughout. Wood was insanely expensive and a rooftop tent spot was $44. The wifi was strong enough to work from our site though!

 I was so excited to be camping here. I wanted a campsite in Trinidad which would be central to all I wanted to do in the Redwoods. This campground seemed to check all my boxes, plus: CAMPING BY REDWOOD TREES!!! This was the clincher for me. There are a lot of redwood trees in the campground& in the sites.

 My husband wanted to give one star. I'm giving three. It wasn't completely awful. First, divide the campground in two. The Hwy 101 side& the Patrick Point Road side. You don't want the Hwy 101 side. It's noisy. VERY noisy. PPR side is the better bet. There's traffic noise, but not as bad. There's a rustic charm about the campground. It's obviously an established place, but I couldn't find out how old it was. Lots of annoying signs posted all over the place about quiet hours, check out time, speed limit, ect. They sell propane& there's a dump station. They have a camp store/gift shop at the office. The beach is very close, but there's no view of the ocean at this campground. This is one of the few places we camped at that we were allowed to have a campfire. 

The worst thing about the campsites on both sides is how close they are- VERY VERY close& narrow. Sites 2-11 are very tight. We had campsite 9. It would have been acceptable if we weren't camped next to site 10, which is the trashiest campsite I've parked next to. Ever. There were a couple of sheds, wooden pallets for a privacy fence& junk everywhere. Obviously a permanent site. The trailer has been there a LOOONG time. We were there for four nights. It sucked. Best site in the campground is site 20, which is a pull through. Don't get site 9 or 11. Sites 14-17 are right on top of the bathrooms& there's foot traffic there all the time. Also not very attractive& right on top of each other. If you rent a cabin, ask not to get Q. Right on top of the bathrooms. Lots of foot traffic. 

If I had a tent site I'd be in heaven. The tent sites are in a redwood setting. Very rustic& nice. Also spacious. There's cabins also that looked nice. 

There's one bath house in the 101 side. Men& women. The women's side had 3 sinks, 1 out of order. 3 toilets all working. 3 showers, 1 out of order. There's a group of three unisex bathroom/shower combos by the PPD side. All working. It looked clean, but my husband accidently dropped his towel on the floor& I had to wash it. Very dirty.

 Laundry had all machines working.

 It looked like most reviewers liked this place a lot. I think it had some charm, but didn't like how close the RV sites were. 

If you're there for a night or two it would probably be ok.

I like camping to get away with other campers and enjoy the outdoors in a beautiful place.. Unfortunately, site 9 is jammed right up against a permanent resident at the campground. The site has junk all over it and dows not give you that get away from it all feeling.

This place is great if you are camling gor a night weather its an RV, Tent, or Cabin. However it was a little pricy for what i got. WIFI sucks if you are more than 50 feet from the main entrance and i found human waste near my campground. This However doest surprise me as the bathrooms are far away from the tent camp areas. Otherwise very peaceful among the trees and very close to the beach.

Passing through south we tried to stay at Patrick’s Point but it was full. Even on a Wednesday in April. So we kept heading down the highway and after a drive through Trinidad we came upon this spot! Great spot with super clean bathrooms and laundry. Nestled in a little redwood grove. Wireless was a little slow for kids to watch a movie but no biggie. Two bars of LTE on Att from pull through #90. I’m also laying in bed looking up through the redwoods. Can hear the road noise from 101 but it’s not bad.

Quiet spot right off the highway. There’s a cute general store for general supplies. The firewood there was pretty lightweight, so I recommend bringing your own hardwood.

Hot showers available with outlets to recharge phones, use hairdryers, etc.

I’ve camped here with 14+ high school students and it was great. Safe, protected and not a lot of trouble to get into. Lots of sites available in various sizes. The redwoods make great cover and dampen the distance sound travels. But heads up, the needles make for a slippery track, have had some issues backing vans out of deep spots before.

Gets cold at night, make sure to bring extra blankets!

The cabins seem reasonably priced for the spread, but I haven’t stayed in one before.

Yes it is a little cheesy and a little dated but I still loved it. Yes it does back up to 101 but barely noticed. Play area for kids. Friendly staff. Would stay here again if ever up this way...

Amidst gorgeous scenery among the Redwoods. The campground was pretty tight and some sites would have been really hard to get into with a larger rig. But the area makes this place worth the challenges. Bathrooms were clean and site was fine.

This is a good stopover for a day or two if you need a good shower and to get some laundry done. We came here in November to a nearly empty lot. Bathrooms were very clean with huge vaulted ceilings (reminded me of cedar built saunas). Not a lot of privacy between sites and the location backs the busy hwy 101 so you do hear cars and trucks all night long.

Trinidad itself is a very neat town with lots of art and good food. Make sure to visit the local artist co-op and College Cove Beach. Travel up north and visit Fern Canyon while observing herds of elk along the way!

Beautiful RV park, nestled amongst redwoods, is clean and well-maintained. Staff was very friendly. Close to downtown Trinidad (though most things were closed due to COVID-19). Close to the ocean and lots of walking trails around. Only problem was cable issues. We changed sites once early on, but that didn't really help, though we were able to get one DISH satellite through a gap in the trees. Our site had 30A, full hook-up service. WI-FI was generally ok. They have laundry and showers, though we had our own. Little store for general needs in park, but small grocery store in town. I suggest visiting or ordering from The Larrupin, a restaurant just two minutes down the road. Very good food and service. We ordered curbside pickup since there was no dine-in due to COVID. We would love to go back to Trinidad when all of this is over and would definitely consider staying again at Emerald Forest.

This place has everything except the pool ! The only down side will be, little noise from the Highway.

I have stayed here several times in the past but this will be the last. To get to tent sites you have to drive through muddy, swampy roads. The bathrooms were dirty and showers were broken and toilets clogged. We were forced to buy a new tent because they would not allow our small children to stay in their one person pup tent because we had more than 2 tents. The lady that called was rude and actually suggested that we get a third site to put our small children in. If you are in the area I wouldn’t waste money here. Go to Elk Country or Patrick’s Point.

Nice amenities and staff, but very loud as the site we were in (96) was right next to highway 101.

This is a very lovely campground clean of trash with quaint with cabins and campsites tucked between redwoods and Douglas fir trees. Campground looks lush and loved.

They offer cabins, RV and tent sites.

Additionally there is a Video Arcade, Horseshoe pit, dog park, celebration hall with board games/puzzles, a mini mart, playground, gazebo, and multiple bath/shower houses and laundry facilities.

They periodically have special events during the weekends. We lucked out with live music and wine tastings.

Incredibly close to town but still immersed in the woods.

Only negative is that it’s close to 101 and car traffic can be heard at times. However, there are many song birds around camp to make your stay pleasant.

Highly recommend!

A little pricey but beautiful! Close to the town of Trinidad. Nestled in the redwoods and absolutely gorgeous.
