Attention Campers: Increased Bear Activity in Campgrounds at Silverwood Lake SRA

Silverwood Lake SRA is currently experiencing an increase in bear sightings and disturbances in campsites at Silverwood Lake SRA. Silverwood Lake SRA has had several reports of a bear entering campsites and entering and damaging tents, ice chests, and other equipment in search of food.

Prevent bear encounters in your campsite:

Do not approach a bear or bear cubs. Mother bears will attack to protect their cubs.

Keep food locked and hidden inside a locked vehicle, bearproof container, or inside your RV at night. Bears can open ice chests. Do no leave food in tents.

Remove all trash to park provided dumpsters when leaving your campsite and before going to bed.

Minimize food and other odor products. Clean your dishes and utensils, keep your tent clean, do no use fragrant perfumes, body sprays, or other scented products.

If you encounter a bear:

Make yourself appear large. Waive your arms, yell, or make loud noises. Do not run.

If the bear attacks, fight back aggressively. Black bear attacks are very rare.

Notify Ranger staff immediately or call 911 to report an aggressive bear.

Camping, picnic, and boating reservations do not guarantee swim beach access.
