Directions

In Mammoth Lakes, CA, at intersection of State Rt. 203 (Main St.), Minaret Rd and Lake Mary Rd, take Rt. 203 west about 6 miles to the Minaret Vista entrance booth where a fee is paid. Continue through the booth on Rt. 203 for another 13.4 miles to campground sign. Turn left at sign into campground.

Above average park campground

Camped here on thru hike of PCT. Everything you need & the cleanest vault toilets ever. The drive in sites seem well appointed but we stayed in the designated hiker sites. Bear vaults a plenty ease stress because bear activity at this campground is well documented.

Just above the campground is a hot spring. It is very hot, making a quick soak a welcome relief to tired muscles. My only complaint was other campers using soap/shampoo to wash at the spring & rinsing it straight into the creek below the spring, (I personally witnessed a dozen people do this).

There's a market & cafe which are pricey but do a booming business anyway. Showers & laundry are available for pay. Flushing toilets by the store are a welcome treat.

Lovely / not overrun campground

After driving around every overcrowded campground in mammoth lakes we were lucky enough to find this campsite on Dyrt. It had many open spots even in July with beautiful views of nearby mountains. Close walking distance (about .5 miles to a mile depending one where your site is) to a lake and a hiking trail up to devils postpile. We also went to try the hot spring there at night but it was so hot you had to bring up buckets of water from a nearby creek to use it, we heard it is better in the early mornings. Also there are a lot of bears in the area and they are relatively comfortable around humans, one walked through our site and other campers sites while we were there so make sure to keep all food and items that may have scent in the bear boxes provided and not in your vehicle or tent!

Tiny slice of Heaven in Devils Postpile National Monumental

This is a small, well kept campground. It’s within walking distance to Lake Sotcher as well as Reds Meadow Pack station and trailheads for Rainbow Falls and Devils Postpile. For now they have bathrooms with running water and flush toilets. There are also water faucets located throughoutcampground. Sites are well maintained and spaced well apart for privacy.

great campground with a great staff

I stayed here for 3 nights while section hiking the Pacific crest trail & everyone I came into contact that worked at reds meadoow was extremely helpful and polite. there's a restaurant (diner food) that's open 8am - 6pm (check hours) & also a general store that sells all your camping needs. there was also a free shuttle from Reds Meadows to mammoth mountain ski lodge where you can catch a bus into Mammoth lakes.

campground has multiple concrete buildings with toilets & running water as well as bear boxes & fire pits. also a steam depending on time of season.

Hikers paradise!

Reds Meadow is a refuel station for thru-hikers from the PCT and JMT. There’s a store with all the amenities, a cafe and hot showers! The campground itself was gorgeous with beautiful scenic meadows and within walking distance to the Devils postpile, a National monument. After visiting the postpile you can continue down the trail to Rainbow falls (4 mile loop) Take plenty of Water! The mosquitoes were relentless! I had zero cell phone service in the Reds meadow Valley. If camping in the Valley, you’ll need to purchase an adventure pass from either the mammoth adventure center or on your way into the park at the guard station (opens 7am). Restrooms and Water were also available for campsite patrons along with a camp host who had fire wood for sale. Please check road and wether conditions before heading into the valley and remember to properly store food this is very active bear country.. not to mention the pesky rodents!

Nice Location near Devil's Postpile

This campground has bathrooms and plenty of space. It is a very open campsite, so you see clearly into other campers' campgrounds. It is very conveniently located, near the PCT and near Devil's Postpile. Great hiking from this location!
