Not worth 15 bucks, go to the state park across the way

$15 bucks for a trash filled campsite. The toilet works and there’s soap. But the bathrooms look like a horror movie and the showers don’t work. Pretty little lake with potential, but people have not been kind to at all. They have been charging for 3 years and the money has all gone to the little park across the way. Hopefully someday this spot gets the love it deserves. Try to find free land or stay at, potentially right down the road, the state park across the way.

Update: Camp host yelling at 8 am, clearly upset over something. Also allows their dogs to poop everywhere.

Nice location

I was just here for one night but it was a good little spot on my trip from Texas to Oregon. The spots were nice with a fire pit and picnic table and the bathroom was nearby.

Nice place in beautiful setting

This is a handy place to stay if you're in Winslow. Spaces are nice and well- spaced with table and fire pit. No problem getting a space. However just be aware that there are no hookups at all and no place to dump your tanks that I can find.

As advertised

This campsite is a city park area. Lots of water activities, a big Park with playground equipment, great for families. The campground is quite a ways away from the park area, but a nice family walk. Clean, not "new" looking but pretty nice. I drove in and looked around before paying the $15 at the pay station at the front.

This is Labor Day Weekend so I thought it might be busier, but it's about 1/4 full.

Sunset was BEAUTIFUL!

This campsite has many signs saying NO ALCOHOL. So heads up on that. Bring cups for whatever you drink.

BRING BUG SPRAY. I am about the farthest you can get from the water, and it's big time bugs.

Edit: the restrooms are not well taken care of, and they really could put in some effort to keep weeds from growing out of every crack in the road. Honestly it feels like the caretaker is not very attentive to the park's infrastructure. Kinda just realized there is absolutely no shade on any of the campsites.

It's a fine stop-over site.

Bring mosquito repellant. Otherwise nice for an overnight stay.

I was looking for a safe place to solo car camp on my way to Colorado. On a Tuesday night it was just myself, an RV and the host RV. LOTS of mosquitoes until the rain started. I had put up my Clam Popup using lag bolts and an impsct drill into the hard ground. I was surprised to see it gone when I got up at 430 am. Once it was light out, I went searching and found it crumpled, but undamaged, near the lake. The rain softened the ground and the winds must have come up.

Anyway, i didn't see trash that others mentioned. If I hadn't had mosquito repellant I would have been miserable, but otherwise it was a nice campground with a pretty view. Very faint train noise, nothing that woke me (than again, i guess i slept through some decent winds).

I didn't use their restrooms due to other reviews (I travel with a potty bucket), so unable to comment on them.

Pretty View

This was a good emergency stop, but I would not pay 15 dollars again. The bathrooms and showers were closed. Be aware. Its not that cool at night and there are a ton of mosquitos near the water. I went to explore and discovered a beauftiful cat there. Not sure if he is someones house cat that stays there, but he hangs by the water and seems taken care of 😆. He glared and stared at me when I psssspssss him. Peaceful.

Pretty view and safe

It was somewhat busy, but still quiet. You can faintly hear a train at night. I felt safe in my rooftop tent, but did hear coyotes around midnight. The view was pretty.

Pay at stop sign at entrance

Look for your overnight camp spot then go back to the entrance and pay for your site. The pay kiosk is at the stop sign at the entrance. No working showers.

Great view and relaxing

NOT FREE Maybe it used to be but now it is $15 a night. I camped nest to the river. What a beautiful view. Only 4 other campers when I was there. Not necessarily a place you would stay more than a few nights. Very close to the cute town of Winslow.

Great for Overnight

Stopped here last minute after visiting the petrified forest. Got there around 6PM on a Sunday and plenty of spots were available! There is a kiosk at the entrance and it is $15 for an overnight camp. Grill and picnic bench for each plot but no potable water source. Restrooms were not super nice but useable. The lake was beautiful especially during sunrise. Wouldn’t spend a whole weekend here unless you are prepared with fishing rods and a kayak, but a good place to lay our head.

Not free

Disregard that review that say “Free”, it’s $15. It’s a great spot if you’re passing through I guess. There is a pretty river flowing past. We went fishing and caught a tiny catfish. It’s a decent place. However I’m not into parking lot camping and that’s what it is. There are no trees.

BATHROOMS WERE THE WORST IVE EVER SEEN. I wouldn’t even expect that at a free campground. And trash was scattered everywhere. My whole group wondered what the money goes towards, definitely not maintenance.

Tent Camping on a Friday night

I had a great night camping at McHood Campground along Clear Creek. It was very peaceful and quiet on a Friday night. Only 4-5 other groups were camping. I woke up the next morning and went for a run around the reservoir before kayaking the 6.5 mile round trip out & back along Clear Creek. Bathrooms were decent and the camping area was very clean. $15 to camp but it was well worth it. I would go back.

Free and lake view

The campground is free and you can stay 14 days, they offer a nice spot with a picnic table, grill and possibly a fire pit. Sometimes working bathrooms but they worked when my husband and I stayed. Pretty view right near the lake, fishing and when the weather is nice you can swim too! On rainy days the top spots get really muddy and kinda flooded. Nice paved road access but spots are on dirt (upper) or pebbled (lower - better when it rains and is right near the lake). We would definitely stay here again. Camp host very nice. No water, sewer, electric or WiFi but signal on my phone was perfect (Verizon).

Great place!

Absolutely love it here! Clean area, clean bathrooms, concrete spots, Quiet hours 10pm-6am. Grill, picnic table, fire ring. Beautiful beach to swim at and Larry the camp host is very helpful 😊

Awesome place

It was a great place to visit. There is boating, swimming and bathrooms. Also trash removal. Each campsite has a picnic table and grill. There is a camp host and he is really nice. Will come around and welcome you and tell you the rules. Other than that will not bother you unless there is problems. He will also tell you where you can go to swim in a pool and take a shower for $2 or under. You may stay up to 14 days free. Right on the lake is an added bonus.
