Porcupine Campground

It was quiet and from all aspects was exactly what we were looking for. As locals we just needed a quick and easy getaway for the weekend. Couldn't have picked a better place!

This campground is located at the very end of Hope Highway. It sits right on the Bay is often missed from Seward Highway as folks rush by. The village of Hope, AK is quaint. A popular campground with Alaskans. $18 a night at this writing.

Love this little Campground at the end of the Hope highway. Great place for side trips. We went the last weekend of the season and the bugs were still pretty thick. Seriously the forest service has some pit toilet magic because what ever they do smells strangely pleasant. Which is worth noting.

This is a standard campground with large spots that should fit the biggest RV. There are some pull through spots as well. Bring bug dope or a screen shelter because the mosquitoes are big and hungry even late into the season.

I was definitely stuck and barbed with natural beauty this camp ground provides, calm relaxation comes to mind when I think about here

We came here in mid-May and everything was beautiful and green. I've read this campground can be busy but it was not at this time. Everything was well taken care of and you could tell the hosts make sure everything is in order. Each site has parking, fire rings, and picnic tables (excluding some tent sites). The picnic tables are large and have spots for someone in a wheelchair. The views of Turnagain Arm are stunning! Sites cost $9.

If you are looking to get away from the city but are okay with close campsites this is the place for you. Has bathrooms and trash. Fire pits and picnic tables

This campground is at the very end of the Hope road. It's often very busy on summer weekends when live bands play at the Seaview, but if you plan ahead enough you can often snag one of the reserved sites online. Strong recommend to end your day at the Seaview if there's music: live bands outdoors, great beer and food, friendliest folks around, all overlooking the Arm!

Standard Chugach National Forest campsite amenities apply: semi-secluded sites, fire pits, picnic tables. The view from some of the sites out over Turnagain Arm is amazing!

Porcupine was our third campground of our trip and it was a good one. We wish we had gotten a better site, but there is plenty of hiking around to see the water and mountains. Oddly, being so close to the water in the summer in Alaska, we expected a deluge of mosquitoes, but actually found none! We used Porcupine as a base camp for hiking Portage Pass and checking out Whittier. If you're anticipating on going to Whittier, be mindful of the tunnel; it's the one way in/out of Whittier and has a toll. No major complaints about the campground, there was plenty of sticks laying around to fuel our BioLite Campstove 2. On our second day, the water pump that was closest to us, broke, didn't seem to have been fixed for the duration of our stay there.

The campground was quite and camp sites were spread out. We enjoyed hiking and biking around town.

Small campground, limited spots. Best to call ahead and reserve dates. Gorgeous views of Turnagain Arm and sunrise/sunset. Down the road from a fabulous coffee shop.

Wonderful campsite experience. Clean bathrooms and available water. We felt safe in the area and were able to check out the beautiful views. Close to hikes!

Great views, great spots, perfect for Gull Rock Hike!

I've stayed in Hope many times. The campground is a bit out of town but is convenient for hiking to Gull Rock. Water stations are located in a couple places throughout the campground. Bathrooms have always been clean. On the weekends there is usually a band of some sort playing at the Seaview cafe. It can get busy but the people are the friendliest.

This campsite fills up fast! We happened to get the last available tent campsite right on the water and it was GORGEOUS! This is the more peaceful campground in Hope (there's another one in town that seems more fun but more noisy too). They have large picnic tables, one spot seemed handicap accessible even. There was a nice fire pit that helped for us novice fire makers. The camp hosts were super helpful and informative. There are two great hikes nearby within driving or walking distance. A perfect weekend getaway from Anchorage! You'll adore this beautiful spot.

Love the location and the great new rodes thew the camp. Beautiful views of the inlet and lots of things to see and do!
