State Park

Buck's Pocket State Park reopened on June 16th, 2021 with a renovated campground and a new ORV(Off-Road Vehicles) trail. These amenities create a family-friendly destination for campers, off-road enthusiasts, and vacationers. This is an exciting time for the Alabama State Parks and our park visitors. Please follow the Buck's Pocket State Park FB page to keep up with all the current events at the park.

The campground features 23 campsites with 13 of those being sewer hook-up sites, 4 of those being pull-through sites, and all of those providing water and electricity. Each of these sites features a 16' x 60' concrete camper pad, picnic table, fire pit, and grill. There are also 11 primitive campsites located within the interior of the campground and more planned for the future. Backcountry sites are also planned for the future. A bathhouse, separate ADA bathhouse, and dump station are provided. Other campground amenities include: One ADA accessible campsite (no sewer hook-up) High-speed WiFi within the main campground Pavilion for rent in a common area

Directions from Geraldine, AL. Follow Hwy 227 out of Geraldine, Ala. traveling north. You will arrive at intersection of 227 and 400. Go straight on to county road 402. In 1 1/2 miles you will arrive at intersection of 402 and county road 50. Continue straight on to county road 19. In 2 1/2 miles you will see main entrance to the park on the left.

Great campground but dry creek

This place is great for short stays but it’s he creeks appear to all be dried out. We are going to see a waterfall maybe tomorrow but the creek in the campground is bone dry. Idk if I missed it on their site but it looks like they don’t mention that on the website. The neighbor said all the creeks are empty.

Update: we had a blast on the trails and the dry creek. Incredible time. It is real wilderness they let you explore without huge constraints. It’s awesome. Hike to the top lookout and see the little sauty falls. Then hike down the dry creek. It’s so amazing. You can go rock climbing, repelling off the top of the mountain. It is very minimal restrictions but beware that you are on your own out there. No cell service to call for help. I give this place 5stars with or without water in the creek.

Nice camp

Recently remodeled and reopened. All rv sites are level large concrete, most are power and water. I did see a few that offered sewer but only a few. Only one row is actually on the creek with most situated a little further away but in easy hearing distance of the rapids. The park is operated by the state and is very clean and staffed by friendly people to help. There is absolutely no cell service or tv stations available due to the geographic makeup of the park. They make up for this by excellent Wi-Fi throughout the park. Most phones will work fine while connected and tv streaming is great.

This small park has been recently renovated and is really nice

The last mile of road before reaching the campground is rather steep and a little sporty, with 2 hairpin curves leading down into the valley. The turn into the campground is a little tight too, but the rest is quite navigable. We were in site C23(one of 4 pull-throughs) for a few days and had that whole side of the campground to ourselves during the week. The pull-through sites are older asphalt and suffer from not being very level, but the new concrete pad back-ins all looked quite level. There is no AT&T or T-Mobile service down here in the valley. Overall, WiFi ranged from pretty good to non-existent, with data rates ranging from 2.6 MB/s down to 0 MB/s. The latter occurring when the park was nearly full, which the office mentioned when we checked in. We had no satellite coverage at our site and there would likely not be any at most of the other sites either. We were not able to get any OTA channels with our omni antenna. There are a couple of moderately strenuous trails in the park, of which Point Rock offers some awesome views of the surrounding valleys and bluffs

A great park reopened!

We stayed at Bucks Pocket State Park recently for five nights and had a wonderful time. This park was recently reopened after being closed for a few years, lots of work has been completed to the campground and facilities. The sites are very nice with full concrete pads, 50/30 amp electrical, water, picnic table, fire ring and grill. There are a few sites that are on the bank of Sauty Creek that also have sewer hook ups. This is a very small campground with only 23 RV sites, 4 of them are pull through. There are also about 8 tent only sites. There are clean and well stocked bathrooms located at the park office and also includes a laundry facility. The office also sells firewood and ice if needed.

There are a few hiking trails that range in levels of difficulty, we hiked the trail to the overlook that I would classify as pretty arduous, the pay off was the Little Sauty Creek waterfall near the top and the beautiful vista of Point Lookout. The trail ascends 800 feet in elevation from the pocket floor to the summit so plan accordingly. There is also an off road vehicle (ORV) trail here so the park attracts these vehicles to the campground on the weekends.

The park host (Jesse and his wife) are very friendly and involved, he is visible throughout the day ensuring the park is maintained and orderly.

There will be little to no cell service or over the air TV reception due to the park being in the valley floor. The park does provide good WIFI that could be received throughout the campground.

A huge thank you to the State of Alabama for providing the resources to restore this great facility to the state park system. Also, an extra recognition to the A Year to Volunteer (https://www.youtube.com/c/AYeartoVolunteer) organization for the extraordinary effort and contribution to this park's rebirth.

Cute park near Lake Guntersville

For fathers day we wanted to take an adventure somewhere we hadn't visited before so we decided to check out Buck's Pocket state park since the hiking at Guntersville seemed a little too mild and we wanted to avoid any crowds. The park here is not huge but really well cared for. When we arrived the staff was incredibly helpful and so friendly and directed us to where to start our hike. We did the 2.4 mile out and back to the viewpoint and it is really an incredible sight. Definitely worth the visit just to check out the view. We then set up our picnic lunch at the campsite area and enjoyed some time under the covered tables while the weather turned and a torrential downpour started. The site is set up as a classic car campground with pull-in sites for RVs and a few designated areas for tent only. They do even have a backcountry site that you hike a little way in to get to. Check out my video for a better look at the whole site. We then drove a little way back down the road to High Falls park and enjoyed a quick dip in the water before the weather caught up with us again. We will definitely be back though since this whole area has a lot to offer.

Amazing place

The campground is no longer open to camping but you can still go down and hike and picnic. There are no staff and the bathrooms aren't open but it's a beautiful place. I have been going since I was really little. It also has an overlook that is gorgeous. It also has a creek that's nice to play in or kayak down when the water is high enough
